The DoD OIG newsletter summarizes the reports and investigations released by the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General in the previous month and those we anticipate releasing in the coming month.

On July 28, 2022, the DoD OIG’s DoD Hotline hosted the Annual Worldwide Hotline Outreach. More than 275 participants from Government and non-Government hotline programs attended the virtual event, which commemorated whistleblowers for National Whistleblower Appreciation Day and spotlighted best practices, lessons learned, and examples of the greatest challenges facing the hotline oversight community.

The 2022 Compendium lists the number, type, age, and status of 1,425 open recommendations, as of March 31, 2022.

We plan to begin the subject evaluation in August 2022. The objective of this evaluation is to determine whether the Army Long Range Hypersonic Weapon and the Navy Conventional Prompt Strike Program Offices are meeting their weapons systems development and fielding timelines and milestones. We may revise the objective as the evaluation proceeds, and we will also consider suggestions from management for additional or revised objectives.

The objective of this audit was to determine whether the DoD adequately provided support, such as housing, medical care, and security, during the relocation of Afghan evacuees. This report also includes results from a DoD OIG evaluation that determined the extent to which the DoD managed and tracked displaced persons from Afghanistan through the biometric enrollment, screening, and vetting processes.

We plan to begin the subject audit in August 2022. The objective ofthis audit is to determine whether the Army adequately maintained and accurately accounted for Anny Prepositioned Stock- 5 (APS-5) equipment in accordance with Federal and DoD regulations. We may revise the objective as the audit proceeds, and we will also consider suggestions from management for additional or revised objectives.

WDC Acquisitions LLC d/b/a Wellman Dynamics located in Creston, Iowa, will pay $500,000 to resolve alleged violations of the False Claims Act for failing to conduct contractually required testing and falsifying test results for parts used in military aircraft, the Justice Department announced today.

BC Flynn Contracting Corp. (BC Flynn) and Axion Specialty Contracting LLC (Axion) pleaded guilty yesterday in federal court in Connecticut for their roles in a conspiracy to rig bids on insulation contracts in Connecticut in violation of the antitrust laws and, as to BC Flynn, to engage in criminal fraud related to those insulation contracts.

A Bergen County pharmacy today admitted its role in a conspiracy to illegally distribute prescription opioids and to give kickbacks to healthcare providers, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.
